An excellent study guide!,
This book separates categories to study weak areas and has a comprehensive test at the end. I did not use the CD; I just put a piece of paper over the answer and answered all the questions on the page and then went over the rationale if I got one wrong. This is the only book I used to prepare for NCLEX and I passed in 75 questions.

|BEST REVIEW BOOK,
I’ve never written a review of a book before, but I felt myself compelled to write one on this book. I am currently looking for another review book and I can’t find one that compares to this Q&A book. The book is actually broken down into sections like the boards. It’s not broken down into sections on different systems (resp, cardiovascular, etc.) like most books. Whats the point in studying or practicing questions that are broken down into systems when that is not what the real boards are like? Also the book gives good rational and test taking strategies like eliminate 2&4 because they are similar. Basically this is the best book I’ve found … Buy it!!!

|Great questions and explanations to prepare for NCLEX-RN,
I bought several books to prepare for NCLEX, but I liked this book the best. I used other books and my notes from school to review contents, and used this book to practice questions. It does not cover each system one by one like nursing textbooks, but rather the chapters are organized in the NCLEX way (e.g. client needs, safe and effective care environment, health promotion, psychosocial integrity, etc.). I did not use CD as much as I planned at the time of purchase because the characters were small and made my eyes tired. (The characters on real NCLEX were bigger and clearer on the screen than this software.) I did not have any problem with this CD like the other reviewers. The book alone has 1810Qs, and they were more than enough for me. Although this book is thick (about 1 1/2 inches) and heavy, I liked the fact that I could take it to anywhere to study. I recognized several NCLEX questions similar to what I practiced in this book, and I passed in 75Qs!

|Invaluable,
If you’re looking for an overloaded, and generally not helpful pocket medicine book that doesn’t actually fit in your coat pocket…you may want to look elsewhere. But if you want a great book that covers all the most important points of critical topics with consistent efficiency, this is most definitely the book you want to buy. The amount of important and consistently helpful information this little stack of pages fits in is very helpful, particularly for us medical students who seem to consistently be on the receiving end of those pimping questions that we need a quick way to look up the answer to. I’ll admit I don’t have any of the 600 pages of the Washington Manual, but I’m not sure it can really be considered a “pocket” medicine book…more along the lines of a “rolling suitcase” medicine book. Buy this book, you will not regret it.

|Great for Residents, but Med Students no so much,
This is a good reference book for those who have become acclimated to the clinical environment, but if you are just starting, the abbreviations used through the book and transition from diagnosis to treatment leaves little to learn from. A good reference book, but a medical student would be better off with a more comprehensive manual in the early stages.

|Perfect for the wards,
 Â
My item shipped before the stated date. When it arrived it was in new condition like described. The book has been updated and some algorithms streamlined. Especially the pre-op clearance section has been clarified since the red book version (much needed). The pages are also thicker and sturdier than the red book’s so they won’t rip or get damaged as easily. Despite the thicker pages, the green book seems to weigh the same as the red book. I would highly recommend this book for any 3rd year medical student to 3rd year IM resident.

|Simply Fantastic,
 Â
I really thought that the authors of this book compiled a list of 1,505 formidable looking words that I would certainly never see again in my life. I was very wrong.
All (yes, all, not almost all) of these words appear at some point in our daily lives, even if it’s rare to hear some of the words in this book used in everyday speech. When I was an AP English student in high school, I noticed that the words in this book frequently appear in the writings of Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, William Faulkner, and Charles Dickens – and even in contemporary writings, such as those of J.K. Rowling. These words commonly appear in major newspapers and magazines such as Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, and these words are bound to appear in any professional writing or documents. I sincerely believe that if you go through these words in the book, you will very seldom find the need to refer to your dictionary to look up an unfamiliar word.
While these words prove beneficial to our daily lives, Word Smart is an ideal choice for those who are still attending high school or college. If your mind is set on memorizing these words (especially helpful for those preparing to take the SAT or other standardized tests), I strongly recommend that you read Harry Lorayne’s Page-a-Minute Memory Book, which is actually recommended by the authors of this book in Chapter 1. Not only will it help you memorize the 1,505 words in this book, but it will also prove exceptionally helpful, inside and outside of your academic career.
I hope my review of this book is helpful. You will not regret this purchase; by the end, you’ll want to begin Word Smart II, 3rd Edition (Smart Guides)!
UPDATE 4/11/2010 — KINDLE VERSION REVIEW –
I would give the Kindle version of Word Smart two out of five stars. It is incredibly frustrating to repeatedly hit the “next Page” to simply get to the next alphabetical group of words! I recommend to Amazon to add an option inside the Table of Contents that would allow the reader to quickly access any alphabetical group of words (“A,” “B,” “C,” etc.). For the meantime, I’ll stick to my hard copy.

|These three books are permanently placed on my working desk, next to my portable computer!,
 Â
Word Smart: Building an Educated Vocabulary
Word Smart II: How to Build a More Powerful Vocabulary
by Adam Robinson
Word Smart for Business: Cultivating a Six Figure Vocabulary
by Paul West Brook
These three books are permanently placed on my working desk, next to my portable computer. I find them very useful as reference guides to writing smart.
The first two books have a combined inventory of almost 1,700 important words. They have been written by Adam Robinson & The Princeton Review Team. As some readers may know, Adam Robinson happens to be also the author of ‘What Smart Students Know’ a very good book about smart study techniques. The two books are originally targetted at students preparing for SAT & other standardised tests, but I find them very useful for working professionals.
The third book has an inventory of over 4,000 important business terms, covering quite a broad spectrum of business disciplines. It has been written by a noted financial planning expert.
I enjoy browsing these three books from time to time. I often refer to them as I write my daily business correspondence as well as my reviews on amazon website.
I strongly recommend these three books to readers who want to communicate effectively, be more persuasive & more importantly, get more from your reading.

|great book to use to study for the SAT!,
 Â
This book has plenty of important words that show up frequently on the SAT. The authors provide good definitions and examples to help you understand them. But reading the book alone won’t get you far, its necessary to make flash cards and re memorize the words again and again.
