Question by : Kindle Fire or 7 inch Galaxy Tab?
My husband told me I get to pick my Christmas gift this year and I narrowed it down to the Kindle Fire or the 7 inch Galaxy Tab. I travel a lot for my job and I want a device I can watch videos and check email with. I had a ipad for a while but I didn’t like it, it was too heavy to hold with one hand and itunes didn’t have a lot of the movies or TV shows I wanted to see or they charged too much. Thanks for your help!

|Neoprene Sleeve,
This item is just what I needed to protect my small Kindle. I am also able to carry within it the cables needed for the Kindle. Great price! Great product! Thanks!

|Great stylus,
I originally purchased another iPad stylus by Young Life (also found on Amazon). While the stylus served it purpose, the stylus would drag, making handwriting a little slow and difficult. A friend purchased the rooCase stylus and I asked to try it out…what a difference! It’s so much smoother, handwriting notes is so fast; and because the stylus tip is reinforced, it doesn’t get pushed down over time. Great quality and price.

|Great stylus,
The roocase capacitive stylus has the best look and feel of several I have tried. My only regret is that I didn’t know that they also have a stylus that is also a ballpoint pen. Had I known, I would have ordered it instead..

|INCOMPATIBLE,
I would love the keyboard IF it worked with android tab I have. Was advertised as such, but is NOT COMPATIBLE. The ad should be revised to ensure buyer is fully informed about product. You need a full usb port on your tablet, adapter to mini port will not work, even though ad says it will. False and misleading info. Also, postage is too expensive to return product. Now I have paid for something that is not usable. No more online shopping for me! You need to stand behind your products & promote them properly with correct specifications. I am disappointed.

|Not For All Tablets,
I purchased this keyboard to use with my Acer A100 tablet. Unfortunately the A100 only has a slave usb port. The keyboard requires a host usb port. What this means is that the A100′s usb port is only used for connecting to another computer for data transfer. It will not work with any other usb device such as a keyboard, flash drive etc.
I still give it four stars because I think it is very well made/designed, with solid keys. I am using it now to type this review on my MacBook.
So make sure your tablet has a host usb port before you buy any usb accessory. You may have to check with your tablet manufacturer. And it does not matter if you have a regular, mini or micro usb port – it just has to be a HOST port.

|A Conflicted Device,
I want to love this tablet. I really do. I know early adoption of technology comes with it’s own trials and tribulations but the amount presented here is overwhelming, even for a techie like myself. Overall this device cannot decide what is wants to be and thus it fails on many levels. It has an Android OS, but no access to Android market, not even while tethered through the USB to a PC. Instead, the minds at Vinci decided to restrict you to their extremely limited marketplace. And it will cost you either $50 or $100 if you wish to update the applications for each year. That seems to be a bit high for simple updates to Android applications. The Android interface itself is not as intuitive as it should be; every time you play a video it presents a list of media players to choose from, WiFi options are presented even though the transmitter’s been removed, the Android settings are too easily accessed by a child and could result in your $500 tablet presenting everything in Korean.
BUILD
The safety features are excellent and the unit seems well built and rugged. The silicon safety ring is an admirable innovation as well as the tempered glass. I can honestly say that the only misstep is the access of the ports is hampered by the safety ring. But it’s a small price to pay to crash proof the device. The removal of the radio/wifi antenna is a relief to anyone who is concerned with radio/microwave emissions. There are six buttons… way too many for meandering little fingers to access. Along the top of the device’s edge you have the power and volume buttons. On the face of the device, you have the home, the menu and back buttons. Too many times my son was enjoying a video only to hit a button and the keyboard pops up or quits to the confusing home menu. I would have preferred a recessed button panel, or a covered one.
INTERFACE
My 18 month old can use my iPhone with no problems, but he cannot operate the Vinci tablet at all. The device boots fairly fast and the applications are laid out in a simple way, but the icons themselves are folders with small logos and words inside the folder icons. That’s a problem for children who cannot READ yet! There should have been a little bit more design in the folder icons, as a child is not going to know how to differentiate between the folder icons. Click the MUSIC VIDEOS folder and your child is presented with two identical folder icons with the names Lullabies and Sing-N-Dance. Open either one and then the videos are presented. That seems a lot to do for a child to handle. I applaud the implementation of the Android OS, but it’s completely unintuitive for children who cannot read yet. To launch a recorded video, you have to access the MEDIA folder then PHOTO or VIDEO and then select a video player to play a video. Again, too much for little minds. Operating systems and user interface are everything. That my child can operate my iPhone with ease but cannot watch a simple video on this table speaks volumes about the Vinci’s interface.
APPLICATIONS
This is the other failing part of the Vinci. If your child likes a particular game segment, you are going to have to do the following: Memorize which game it was and navigate to that segment. Sounds fairly easy but it is not. THE WORLD: AFRICA game is a collection of great mini games. But to get those games, you have to first find Africa on the globe, select one of 4 portions of Africa you want to visit (each with their own games and animals and locales) and you arrive in a village. From the village, you have to pan around the various sites, activities and people until you find the game you want to play. What??? Once you get to your game, you better hope someone’s little finger doesn’t hit the back button because you’ll have to do it all over again. Maybe it is not meant for someone his age, but my parents cannot navigate to the game either.
MISCELLANEOUS
The 3.0 mega pixel rear facing camera is a nice touch although it is awkwardly placed (it’s off center in the upper right quadrant of the back panel) though the photos and videos are grainy. There is access for a MicroSD card, but for what it is used for is beyond me. I loaded a bunch of videos on a MicroSD card for my son to watch but the ASTRO explorer shows up about 20% of the time. I do not know why but that is what happens. The rest of the time, the Vinci states “No SD card is present or is Unmounted”. So the Vinci sees the card but think it’s unmounted. I thought that downloading the Vinci TAB manager would help, but that was an experience in of itself. If you have XP or Vista, you actually have to download an additional driver and hope that your OS recognizes the tablet.
CONCLUSION
This is not a tablet for babies. Perhaps a 2 or 3 year old who’s cognitive abilities are more developed, but not my 1 and half year…

|Too buggy for the price,
I was very excited when I learned Vinci was releasing a tablet for babies and young children and immediately pre-ordered one for my 19 month old daughter.
I am a very tech savvy individual and understood with it being a new product, there would be some minor “kinks” to work out.
When the Vinci arrived, I immediately started using it and within mere minutes, realized just how incredibly buggy it was. Screens would often not display correctly (as in, at times part of the screen was the desktop while the other part was the actual application I was trying to load). Shutting down was an inconsistent experience. Sometimes, the volume of the game would keep playing sound, though the system was supposed to be shut down. Other times, I wasn’t even able to adjust the volume. Applications didn’t always start as they should either, and sometimes a system restart would be required. I tried calling customer support, but reached a voice mail box (personally, if it was my new product’s debut, I’d do anything and everything to ensure I had customer support available 24×7 – at least initially!)
Perhaps the very first release of the Vinci was the issue and many of those problems I mentioned have now been addressed. Unfortunately, I was so disappointed, that I returned it within 24 hours and bought an iPad instead.

|Dissappointed,
My 2-yr-old has been playing with my iPhone for the past 8 months. I got a Vinci for him, excited that he would finally get something that was specifically designed for his age and I could have my phone back. The very first day it became apparent that the device was malfunctioning. I’ve had to do every troubleshooting technique and hit every glitch imaginable. Tech support was very patient and helpful, but they only work mon-fri on eastern time (which does not work around my hactic schedule). After a week of troubles, the company finally send me a replacement, but it has it’s glitches too. If iPad wasn’t so expansive and heavy, I’d pick that instead.
