The Cell Phone Grows Again

Posted by on September 05, 2008

Technology has a great way of wanting to make everything smaller and lighter and the cell phone has gone through many many reincarnations in its life time.

Originally called the brick (for obvious reasons at the time) you literally had to be a body builder to carry one around, but technology came to the rescue and gradually shrunk this monster down, and down , and down some more till the buzz of the street was look at the size of this one,

Trouble was whilst this was pleasing to one part of society, the younger generation, us slightly older people often need to wear glasses as the lens in our eyes age. But only for reading and close up work.

So as the phones got smaller and smaller you started seeing older adults holding their phones at arms length so they could either read the screen or read the numbers and if you ever wondered what they were doing now you know.

Things got so bad that companies started designing cell phones with big buttons just so the boomers could use the things.

But …. Technology to the rescue once again (even if unwittingly) and now it’s cool to have touch screens and internet on your phone, but in reality the screen sizes were too small so almost at a pace that is inperceptible cell phones have gone back up in size and now all is well with the world once more.

Want To Locate A Powershot Sd890?

The Canon Powershot SD890 IS Digital Camera is a fairly new camera released in March. For the casual photographer who takes a photo once in awhile, it’s a bit pricey.

We were fascinated by the myriad of features in this canon ultra compact so we decided to talk to some digital photography experts and let a couple of our reviewers take this Canon Powershot SD890 IS out into the field and put it through its paces.

This ten megapixel canon brand camera promises unbelievable picture resolutions. Ten megapixels are important when you like to print out big renditions of your photos. The lower levels of megapixels in certain cameras tend to turn images grainy when printed in large scale.

Unlike other canon powershot models which are made mostly out of plastic, the Canon Powershot SD890 IS digital camera is mostly made of metal and is considered to be one of the biggest and weightiest cameras in the “compact” digital camera category, especially for the zoom quality you get. The camera has a 5x zoom, allowing you high quality resolutions on objects that are pretty far away.

While you won’t get full manual control over the Canon Powershot SD890 IS digital camera, it does have a big variety of shooting styles or modes. We particularly liked the focus check display mode on this canon. This feature identifies faces in the playback mode and then zooms in on them which allows the camera’s user to make sure that the faces are in focus.

The lack of manual control is frustrating for individuals who don’t like shooting in a pre-set style. While it is true that there are plenty of pre-set options in place on this Canon powershot model, someone who wants to have absolute control over image exposure might want to consider buying another of the Canon Digital Cameras.

The Canon SD890 IS does take a special manufactured battery. They’re usually more expensive then most digital cam batteries. They are rechargeable but keep in mind that recharging can take up to 2 full hours. So make sure you plan ahead if you are going to do some serious shooting. Otherwise you’ll need to spend some extra bucks on backup batteries to keep you going while you are in the field.

And finally…after putting the Canon Powershot SD890 IS through its paces, one of our reviewers had this to say: This is a great camera in a small package, which makes it great for people who don’t want to have to lug around a huge camera just to get a quality shot. The Canon Powershot SD890 IS digital camera is the best of both worlds: professional quality photographs from a point-and-shoot pocket sized camera.”
