An Insult For The Price,
Paying $60 for a Kindle cover is ludicrous, but since the device is open-faced, a cover seems almost necessary. I have a neoprene soft netbook case I was using, but I wanted a bit more protection. Unfortunately, there’s a slew of predatory manufacturers and merchants, eager to charge a premium for extremely low-quality products.
This is why I’m writing this review. I want to fairly warn anyone considering the purchase of this product. I understand that there’s a steep demand for covers for consumer electronics, and this is going to drive prices above $50, but products really need to rise above a certain threshold of quality if they’re going to enjoy the privilege of this price point.
My wife has the “official” Kindle cover for her smaller Kindle, the one with the elastic band. It’s also kind of pricey, but at least the design seems thoughtful. The built-in light is impressively tidy, almost clever. This is in stark contrast to the periscope light this cover comes with. Clearly the light is a bit bulky even in the pictures, but it’s worse in reality. I convinced myself it might be a sleek metal or something. It’s not — just plastic — the kind of thing you’d expect to be given away for free at a trade show. Furthermore, the cover doesn’t really seem like it was designed to stand up as illustrated. Rather it seems the designer discovered that it did after the fact.
But the worst part for me is how poorly the cover closes. It really doesn’t. There’s a large gap between the front cover and the device. The designer’s best attempt to mediate the disparity was to install a rubber stopper in the lower right-hand corner. The final product feels like a prototype, glued together from bits and pieces from a hobby store.
I’ve returned this cover. As a replacement, I will probably end up purchasing he larger DX version of the same cover my wife has. The reason I didn’t purchase this cover originally was out of fear of the fancy metal hinge system. Some reviewers reported bent metal or cracked plastic. However, this seems largely due to opening the Kindle the wrong way. But since the cover has an elastic band, it seems a bit difficult to mistake the front from the back (at least I haven’t had a problem with my wife’s Kindle).
I’d rather have a $50 cover that was mostly well designed than this $60 cover designed by a greedy hack.

|Very well designed Kindle DX cover,
I am very pleased with this product. The light is excellent and gives me one more reason to forgo physical books: I like to read outdoors after dark, but I’ve never found a book reading light that provided adequate light and wasn’t awkward to hold.
The “large gap between the front cover and the device” which appalled the reviewer who gave this produce one star was, I thought, a clever design aspect of this Kindle cover since it provides a cushion of air between the cover and the Kindle screen. Last and by no means least, the cover is quite attractive. The Persiscope comes with a one-year warranty against defective materials or workmanship.

|Leather cover,
Some folks protest that they like the feel of a book and that the Kindle doesn’t have it…with this cover – it does.
I’ve seen and handled several Kindle covers and this one is by far the best.
It’s comfortable and easy to handle. It does not get in the way.
BTW, it looks great!

|Cole Haan Kindle Cover,
 Â
I read all of the nine reviews … and they came in at 4-s and 5-s. I had also read some 1-s on another, similar product by Cole Haan … how the hooks would not fit into the Kindles. So I purchased a cover, thinking that Cole Haan would have fixed any covers that were defective.
I was wrong. The cover I received had hooks that would not even come close to fitting into my Kindle.
I would advise against purchasing this item. Thankfully, Amazon continues to be the reputable company they’ve always been by honoring their guarantees. They refunded me fully. (Thanks, Amazon!)
(I was hoping that the Amazon quality-control folks would have picked up on this issue from previous buyers.)
So, I will save a few bucks and stick with the original Amazon cover (much less expensive and equally durable) that I purchased with my Kindle a year ago. It fit well from day one.

|A great way to protect your Kindle purchase,
 Â
After playing around with the idea, I finally went ahead an got a case for my Kindle. I like using my devices “naked”, ie without cases, but overtime found that a case for my kindle was necessary as my commute bag is filled with things that could easily damage or scratch the surface of my reader.
I wanted something that looked good but was also fairly basic and not too bulky when sitting in my bag. This case fit my criteria on all accounts. It looks great from the outside and I love the smooth and supple feel of the leather (as well as the smell) and it is truly a pleasure to hold and read without getting tired of holding. The business card holder is a nice touch in case I accidentally leave it one the bus one day. The case is also good for privacy, because, I will admit, I am one of those who gets annoyed by others beside me reading along. The one thing to be wary of is that the case will get some nicks and dents. If you look closely (from normal wear and tear) there are small cuts and scratches that happen as a matter of usage. This does not bother me, and is barely noticeable, but it may bother others and it is worthwhile to note take note of this.
Now I will address some of the negative reviewers who erroneously state that this case does not fit the Kindle 2. THIS HOLDER FITS THE KINDLE 2. I will admit it is tricky to get it in. Here are the brief instructions. The top notch slides up and down to lock the Kindle securely into the cover.
1) place kindle in the bottom slot first.
2) slide down the notch on the top completely
3) slide the Kindle into the top notch
4) slide the notch back up to lock the device securely into the cover.
These instructions will make more sense once you have both devices in front of you. The big point is the top notch slides down to line up with the built in slots in the Kindle.

|It’s much better than most reviews make it out to be, but not perfect,
 Â
First of all, this cover is not nearly as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be. It doesn’t feel like “cheap” plastic, nor does it feel like it’s going to immediately disintegrate into a pile of rubbish. So let’s start having a look at it in detail:
1) The back. Mine is very thin leather, formed around what appears to be a rubber-like shell. In my opinion, the leather on the back looks pretty good. It’s tightly form-fitting, and form-fitted and bonded to the shell, so I can see where some casual users might mistake it for plastic. It is in my opinion, most definitely leather. Is it “quality” leather? Well, I suppose so, but it’d also have to be extremely thin quality leather.
2) The shell. The next layer would be what I call the form-fitting shell. It comprises the structure that makes up the back half of the cover. The kindle touch fits very tightly into this shell. It’s certainly not going to fall out of there. In fact, it might not be all that easy to remove the kindle, it’s so tightly snapped in. The shell tends to increase the bulk of the kindle a bit, which I actually like. It feels like it’ll give me some shock/drop protection. Contrary to some other reviewers, I don’t think it makes the kindle overly bulky. I think it gives a very thin device some much needed weight and substance.
3) The light. It’s on a snap up arm on the top. There’s no adjustment to it, it’s either fully up or it’s fully down. It gives off plenty of light to read my kindle in the dark. The light is at a fixed angle. It’s slightly brighter at the top of the kindle than the bottom (it does after all, have to obey the laws of physics). The light is of course powered by the kindle’s battery. That’s your reason for buying this case and not some other case.
4) The front cover. It’s made of the same thin leather as the back, with some hard material sandwiched inside, and then a felt-like inner layer. The front cover is extremely thin. It’s not flimsy as other reviewers have claimed; it’s actually quite stiff. However it’s thin enough that it feels like you could snap or crease it if mishandled.
Pros:
1) The cover looks good, fits good, and is compact. It’s just the right size, and it’s just the right weight. It feels like the cover is designed for the kindle. It doesn’t feel like a sloppy poorly fitting aftermarket case. Your kindle and the case become one.
2) The light illuminates well, it lights up the whole surface of my kindle, making it easy to read.
3) It offers adequate protection. The rubber shell will protect from drops and shocks. The front cover, provided it stays closed, will protect the screen.
Cons:
1) The light distracts me while I’m reading, particularly if I read while laying on my back in bed. I wish it had more of a glare shield. I might try fabricating something from a piece of black electrical tape, just to see what happens.
2) The light feels fragile. It articulates up and down, but does not articulate front to back. If you ever whacked it a good one front to back, you’d probably bust it off, at which point you’d have a non-lighted kindle cover.
3) The front cover has no means to stay closed. I wish it had magnets to give it a little extra staying power. My K2 cover had nothing to keep it closed either, so I don’t feel slighted, but you’d think on the 4th generation someone would be able to figure out a way to stick some magnets in there.
4) The front cover is both stiff and thin. It feels like if I mishandled it that I could easily damage it. For example, tossing it into a briefcase or a bag and letting the cover get caught in just the wrong way could leave me with a big ugly crease. This wouldn’t be so much a problem if there would have been something to keep it closed.
In short, I’m both impressed and disappointed in the quality. Impressed because it turned out to be much better than the reviews led me to believe. Disappointed because it’s a very pricey case and I’d like the light and the front cover to be a little more hefty in design. I also really wish the light had a better glare shield. I deducted one star due to the perceived lack of durability and one star due to the lack of value for such a high price.

|Actually have the case,
 Â
I preordered my Kindle Touch and Lighted cover on September 28th. Got my kindle day early but case shipment has been a mess. First there was no date for shipping. Then I got an estimate of December 22nd and in about 3 hours got a follow email that my case was to be delivered today.
Case showed up an hour ago and as soon as it came in I attached my KT to it. I had original K3G with lighted cover before this one and its definitely a better design then earlier version. Kindle Touch weighs 7.3 ounces and Cover 5.4 ounces so its not light weight.
This case is a TPU style case which has hard plastic back. Leather is not of high quality like the premium brands that exist. I actually like the back design compared to the previous model as kindle is attached inside it and not connected via 2 clips on the side. Light position is much improved and provides more even light. Also its easier to operate then previous model. Price is still high for what it offers but not much u can do about it.
So overall I do like the case, Don’t like the price and find this model much better than earlier one.
one thing to note is they no longer have a little strap that keeps the case closed. Right now its fine but not sure what is going to happen once i start folding the front cover back. It might become loose and start flapping too much. It would have been nice to have either a magnet or a strap to hold it closed
